The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood named "Hello Barbie" the worst toy of the year yesterday. It's a talking Barbie that also records what your kid says.

The recordings of children are then passed to a third party company that can then use it “to perform, test or improve speech recognition technology and artificial intelligence algorithms, or for other research and development and data analysis purposes.”

Josh Golin, the Executive Directoer for the CCFC had this to say: “In a year full of jaw-droppingly bad toys, Hello Barbie deserves the TOADY as worst of the worst. It’s the perfect storm of a terrible toy, and threatens children’s privacy, wellbeing, and creativity.”

Honorable mentions for Worst Toy of the Year go to Brands We Know book series, Bratz #Selfie Stick with Doll, Nerf Rebelle Charmed Dauntless Blaster, Sky Viper Video Drone by Skyrocket Toys, and Tube Heroes Collector Pack.
