A San Mateo County sheriff’s deputy dragged a driver from a car that was stuck on Caltrain tracks in California just seconds before it was hit by an oncoming train.

Here's the same accident from the other side:

The deputies told reporters that they simply did what they are trained to do and rejected assertions that they were heroes.

“I don’t think there was time to be scared,” Rueppel said. “You just kind of do things as safe as you can and respond and that’s it. It kind of just happens.”

Caltrain spokeswoman Jayme Ackemann, said she it was fortunate that no one was hurt.

“These incidents aren’t just hard for the families of the victims, they’re hard for our engineers and crew on board the train, so we’re grateful that tragedy was averted because these two deputies were in the right place at the right time.”
