Lt. Mark Kakert represented what we all thought of when we said we wanted to grow up to be a fireman.  As an elementary school kid, the concept of fire-fighter is pretty simple: Help people who need it, and put out fires.

As Public Education Officer for the Davenport Fire Department, he talked to many elementary school kids about fire safety, and what it was like to be a firefighter.  When he brought the smoke trailer out for education, or was interviewed about Christmas tree fire safety on the news, he put a proud face on firefighting in the Quad Cities.  He would help out other departments, and always wore a smile as part of his uniform.

Mark was 55, and passed away yesterday.  Thanks for your dedication to our safety. Our prayers to his family, and his brothers and sisters in public service.
