Good thing the guy in this story didn't die, so we can laugh about it and only feel a little bad.

Loro Parque is a zoo in the Canary Islands. And they were running a drill this week where a 35-year-old employee dressed up in a gorilla suit, so the staff could practice how they'd handle a loose gorilla.

Unfortunately, someone forgot to tell one of the veterinarians on staff. Because he saw the guy in the gorilla suit . . . thought he was an ACTUAL gorilla on the loose . . . and shot him with a tranquilizer dart.

That dart had enough tranquilizer in it to take down a 400-pound gorilla. The guy in the gorilla suit was taken to the hospital, where he's still in serious condition.

While there is no video footage of this incident, there is video of a Japan zoo doing the same drill. As you can see, it would have been easy to mistake the costume for an actual gorilla.
