You can make music with just about anything, and here's the proof: An electronic music duo called Matmos has recorded an album with only one instrument: a washing machine.

They pounded on the machine like a drum, and also sampled all the bells, whistles and alarms. The album is 38 minutes long, which is the length of one wash cycle. It starts with the sound of the machine's wash selection knob, and ends with its "cycle finished" noise.

The album is called "Ultimate Care 2", because the machine they used is a Whirlpool Ultimate Care 2. There's no word if Whirlpool kicked in anything for the promotion.

I'm not accusing these guys of ripping off "Sesame Street", the Muppets kind of did it first, in the 1999 cinematic classic "Elmo in Grouchland":
