World Series of Drag Racing to Leave Cordova International Raceway
For the first time in 61 years, Cordova International Raceway will not be host to the World Series of Drag Racing.
IRG Sports + Entertainment made the announcement on their website that the World Series will be held at the Memphis International Raceway August 26th and 27th.
The transition to MIR moves the historic event to a centralized location that can withstand the growth potential and bring in even more racers, fans, vendors, live music and much more. The new facility will serve as a fitting showcase for the world’s fastest drag racing and focus on a fan and racer friendly atmosphere.
Village President Dean Moyer told the Quad City Times, "It’s going to cost us some tax revenue and some businesses will suffer. That’s a big weekend. I don’t know what the catalyst was to make this all start happening. I’m thinking this track doesn’t have long to live. If they keep it open, it will be a shoestring operation."
