A Pell City, Alabama city employee is lucky to be alive after a smokestack scheduled for demolition rained bricks on top of the track hoe he was operating.

City crews were set to demolish the last bit of Avondale Mills Tuesday morning, using 70 pounds of explosives to bring down the smokestack on the site, according to Birmingham ABC affiliate ABC 33/40. After two attempts at blowing it up didn't work, a track hoe was brought in to chip away at the bottom of the structure.
