Australian reporter Alex Bernhardt was trying to interview the friend of a suspected murderer when the woman decided that she was through with the interview and put her lit cigarette out in Alex's face.

Ms Bernhardt told Daily Mail Australia the cigarette left 'a bit of a red mark... but I don't want to blow it out of proportion, it's gone now'.

'It certainly wasn't something I was expecting when you're doing your job'.

She said the woman had blown cigarette smoke at reporters. A male accomplice had also 'barked' like a dog at the media pack.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the alleged attacker, 23, was charged with public nuisance this morning and will appear in court on July 23.
