Amber Schmunk of Fredonia, Wisconsin told police that she had her 9-year-old son riding on top of her minivan so that he could hold down a molded plastic kiddie pool because she had no way of securing it.

The 28-year-old mother was reported to police after witnesses saw he driving down the street with the young boy riding on top and holding the pool down. Witnesses say Schmunk eventually pulled over and wedge the pool in the vehicle.

She told police that she had only driving a short time, about 20 to 30 seconds, before stopping to take the child and pool off the roof. She also said that she had used a strap to hold down her son and the pool.

Schmunk is facing second-degree recklessly endangering safety which is punishable by a maximum of five years in prison.
