Ted Pelkey erected a 700-pound wooden middle finger on top of a 16-foot pole in his front yard as a way of sticking it to the man.

The Westford, Vermont man says he's been fighting with town officials for more than a decade over a garage he wants to build on his property. The 54-year-old wants to build the 8,000 sq. ft. garage so he could move his truck repair business.

Officials say his applications miss the town's standards, but he thinks they're biased against him. This fall, Ted finally had enough and wanted to show it.

He commissioned the $4,000 sculpture and mounted it on a platform with two floodlights, so it can be viewed all the time. "If you don’t want to look at the building, look at this," Ted said.
