Matt Hughes was hospitalized more than a month ago after a train crashed into his truck in Raymond, Illinois. According to MMA Legend and Hughes' former trainer, Pat Miletich, he's no longer in a coma.

“He is surprising the doctors,” Pat told MMAFighting.com. “He’s making great leaps and he’s no longer in a coma, and he’s improving. It’s going to be a long road. Any type of head trauma at that level, there’s going to be some rehab.”

Pat also revealed new details about the accident itself. The crossing was on a hill and Hughes was stopped on the gravel road. Due to the grade and loose rock, he was unable to get going before the train hit him at 50 MPH.

“When you’re out in the country, there’s no crossing guards, there’s no lights,” Miletich continued. “It’s almost like, he saw it, then tried to beat it."
