Nothing says "birthday fun" like getting a felony. 27-year-old Katie Mager from Apple Valley, Minnesota and a 27-year-old Ryan Reiersgaard from Burnsville, Minnesota visited Chicago last Thursday to celebrate Ryan's birthday.

Just after they got there, they got mugged at knifepoint. Men stole a $12,000 engagement ring, $5,000 cash, a $3,000 Louis Vuitton suitcase, a $2,000 MacBook Air, and more. Katie said one of the muggers looked like Fat Albert.

At least, that's what they told the cops.

After the police investigated, they figured out it was all made up. Katie and Ryan couldn't get their stories straight, security cameras didn't back up anything they said, and footage from the airport showed they didn't even have luggage.

So why did they lie? According to Ryan, it was to "have some fun" for his birthday. And Katie said it's because she "has bad friends." They're both facing a felony charge for falsely reporting a crime.
