Hopefully this couple doesn't look back at their proposal as a metaphor for their marriage.

The couple were walking around Times Square in New York City last week when the guy got down on one knee to propose. He fumbled the ring and dropped it down a sewer grate. They asked the police for help finding it. When they couldn't spot the ring, the couple left.

A day later, some officers went back in and managed to find the ring deep in some mud. They didn't have the couple's contact information, so they took to social media and tweeted a video of the proposal:

Their plan worked and the couple were identified. The ring was returned to them, the cops even cleaned it up first:
