On this date, the anniversary of a 2006 Nevada concert where John Mellencamp criticized the Bush administration from the stage ...with a former vice-president in the audience...I am reminded of one of my favorite concert moments.  Somewhere around the time that Bruce Springsteen, Mellencamp, The Dixie Chicks, and many others, were sharing their political views on the stages of their concerts, my wife was pleading for me to take her to see Michael Buble, and I reluctantly agreed.  I wasn't sure if I would like the show, but then during the semi-quiet in between 2 songs, Canadian Michael Buble took the mic and said, paraphrasing now, something like..."Like a lot of artists, I too have political opinions .. but I DON'T think it's my right or my place to stand up here and spout them, my job is to entertain you..."   Simple and brilliant!  The crowd reacted favorably, and so did I, and I unexpectedly became a fan of Michael Buble that night.  Picture by Carlo Allegri/Getty Images
