These Subtle Signs Mean You’re Making Someone Uncomfortable
You've probably heard some of these before and how you're supposed to look out for them on a date. But they also apply in other situations, like when you're at work.
Here are some subtle signs you're making someone uncomfortable:
- They touch or rub anywhere on their neck. There are a lot of nerve endings in your neck, studies have shown that touching it reduces your heart rate and blood pressure. We do it subconsciously when we're stressed out.
- They avoid eye contact. That doesn't mean they should always be looking at you. Too much eye contact can actually be a sign that they're trying to hide how uncomfortable they are.
- Their feet are pointed away from you. We do it subconsciously when we're uncomfortable with someone. Most people can force a smile or maintain eye contact if they try to. But we don't usually think about what our feet are doing.
- Withdrawing or blocking. Meaning they might adjust their chair so they're not quite facing you. Or they might put a barrier between the two of you by crossing their arms or legs, or standing behind something, like a table.
Keep in mind that you might not be the reason they're uncomfortable though. They could just be stressed out about something that has nothing to do with you.
