You can either make money or have a relaxing life, there is no in between. That is, unless you pick the right career.

U.S. News and World Report just put out their annual list of America's best-paying jobs. Predictably, the list features a lot of different types of doctors and management jobs.

There was only one job that had below-average stress and good work/life balance: orthodontist.

The rest of the jobs that have salaries with six figures have above-average stress, bad work/life balance, or both. Orthodontists avoid that by not usually handling medical emergencies and having more flexibility with their hours.

A career counselor says that it is possible to make good money and have a low-stress, balanced life. But you have to make those things a priority and work to have them.

So if your job is stressing you out, you should figure out why it is and how to reduce it, set boundaries with your work hours to spend time at home, and add in exercise and breaks so you don't burn out.
