For the last 50+ years The Grammy Awards Show has followed a recipe for paying tribute to Artists in the genre that has made for some memorable Television. Eminem and Elton John, Joss Stone and Melissa Etheridge are recent performances that come to mind.

This year, they had a full slate of artists so deserving, and that may be where they let Glenn Frey fall through the cracks. Or maybe His Eagles brethren did it for them, as legendarily uncooperative as they are.

Take a look at the following tributes to B.B. King, David Bowie and Lionel Richie. Notice the pattern?  All those artists were re-interpreted by younger, possibly mentored, certainly influenced-by artists who gave incredible performances assisted by some seasoned performers.

Now look at the Glenn Frey Tribute.  Where's Ed Sheeran?  Jackson Browne is a great artists, and a great friend to Eagles performers who joined him onstage. But there was a clear lack of energy--because these guys, as talented as they are, basically just gave the same show they had been doing for the last 15 years on tour--just without Glenn.

Too bad--an artist like that should have been sent off with a thrill, instead of a yawn.
