If any hearing-impaired people tuned into the announcement of the arrest of a suspected serial killer, they were left with a bunch of gibberish and confusion. Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan gave the news conference without procuring a qualified ASL interpreter.

Derlyn Roberts is being accused of making signs that were "like she was singing Jingle Bells," according to one deaf viewer. Many missed out on the details surrounding the four shooting that led to the arrest of 24-year-old Howell Emanuel Donaldson III.

Rachell Settambrino, who teaches American Sign Language at the University of South Florida, says that Roberts signed:
"Fifty-one hours ago, zero 12 22 (indecipherable) murder three minutes in 14 weeks ago in old (indecipherable) murder four five 55,000 plea 10 arrest murder bush (indecipherable) three age 24."
