Shoppers Still Paying Off 2016 Holiday Shopping Debt

The holiday shopping season has already started for 2017, but some shoppers are still paying off their debts from last year's gift buying.

NerdWallet looked at the spending and behavior trends of 2,000 shoppers and found that half of them will over spend or didn't have a budget at all.

16% of them still haven't paid off their credit card debt from last Christmas.

Here are some tips to follow to make sure that doesn't happen to you:

Make and follow a budget. Figure out what you can afford to spend and divide it by the number of people you're buying for.
Look for sales. Look for the items you're shopping for a head of time and look for deals and sales.
Pay debt right away. Don't let that balance on your credit card sit at the end of the month.
