Dr. James Lilja may not have played in The Offspring during the band's commercial success in the 90s, but he's still the original drummer. The reason for leaving the band? He had to focus on medical school.

The obstetrician-gynecologist was recently in court facing medical malpractice charges filed by the husband of one of his patients.

Lilja's trial went a different direction after one of the 35 jurors collapsed, hitting his head and losing consciousness. The defendant and his nurse assistant ran to the man's side and found him not breathing and without a pulse.

The pair performed CPR and used a defibrillator. Paramedics arrived to find the juror still unconscious but with a pulse.

The whole incident led to the judge calling a mistrial, the plaintiff's attorney worried that the gallant act would make the jurors biased towards Lilja.

The jurors were dismissed and a new trial date has been set for April 2nd.
