New Yorker Tries to Make a Sword and Sets 32 Buildings on Fire
I think this guy just got proof he's not the One True Hero awaiting the sword of destiny that the prophecy foretold.
51-year-old John Gomes from Cohoes, in upstate New York, recently watched an episode of the History Channel show "Forged in Fire". On this episode, some expert weapon makers made swords by bending steel in barrels of fire.
So John decided to try it for himself out on his back porch on Thursday. Only he's not an expert weapon maker, and it was windy. His house caught on fire and then it spread.
Thirty-two buildings wound up catching on fire and it took firefighters six hours to get the fire under control. When it was finally over, the fire caused millions of dollars in damage.
And at least 20 people were displaced from their homes, but fortunately there weren't any serious injuries. John was arrested and charged with fourth-degree arson and reckless endangerment.
