It's already been an incredible year for hip-hop, with new projects from Kanye West, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and many other superstar artists already in the bag. Fortunately for all the die-hard rap fans reading this, the run of dope albums and mixtapes is set to continue throughout the month of August. The dog days of summer are here, and so are some of the year's hottest releases.

Frank Ocean's Boys Don't Cry is arguably the most anticipated album of the century (not counting Dr. Dre's Detox, which prolly won't ever drop). The 28-year-old Long Beach, Calif. singer has had fans thirsting for new music ever since his 2011 breakout mixtape, Nostalgia, Ultra, and 2012 debut album, Channel ORANGE. Well, Boys Don't Cry was (almost) officially here. The long-awaited album was apparently set to drop on Friday (Aug. 5) but didn't arrive.

Travis Scott's sophomore album, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, was also set for a release on Aug. 5. However, the LP didn't drop that day. Now La Flame will bring the heat on Aug. 26. He's had a solid catalog with any and all releases so far -- whether it's a loosie ("Whole Lotta Lovin'"), mixtape (Days Before Rodeo) or full-length album (Rodeo) -- so fans are expecting nothing but the best from the Houston rap-rockstar. His track "Pick Up the Phone" featuring Quavo and Young Thug is a strong single.

Scott gets any party going, but so do the brothers from Tupelo, Miss., who are back with a sophomore album of their own. Rae Sremmurd's SremmLife 2 is dropping on Aug. 12 and will contain 14 tracks with features from the likes of Kodak Black, Lil Jon and Juicy J.

The rest of the month is chock-full of other big-name bodies of work. PartyNextDoor is dropping the third installment in his critically acclaimed mixtape series, French Montana is putting out MC4, which contains the banger "Lockjaw." And Post Malone will cap off the month with his own debut album, Stoney. The "White Iverson" rapper's May mixtape got a lot of love, and it's a good bet that his album will include some ill cuts, as well.

But those aren't the only projects dropping over the next 30 days. Check out the full list of new music releases for August 2016 in the above gallery. As always, keep it locked to XXL to stream or cop these albums as they officially drop throughout the month.
