Navy “Leap Frog” Parachutist Dies After Falling Into Hudson River
A member of the U.S. Navy's parachute team, "The Leap Frogs," died after his chute failed to open during a performance at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Petty Officer First Class Remington "Remi" Peters fell into the Hudson River as hundreds watched. He was pronounced dead less than an hour after being pulled from the water.
The Leap Frogs were participating in Fleet Week with a number of jumps in front of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. Fatal accidents are rare for the parachute team and they've given demonstrations for decades.
