Middle Schooler Grows Half-Ton Pumpkin in Her Backyard

Eleven-year-old Carena Adkins has been tending to her pumpkin patch since April and her daily TLC has helped one of the gourds to grow into a half-ton monster.

“I like to watch it get bigger and bigger each day,” said Carena. She plans on entering it into a weight contest, her current pumpkin beats her last attempt by 700 pounds already.

Carena and her father will harvest the pumpkin this weekend and truck it off to the weigh-in.
