28-year-old Matias Ferreira is a Marine veteran in New York who lost both of his legs from the knee down while deployed in Afghanistan in 2011.

And being a Marine, Matias is still a total badass. He uses two titanium prosthetics to get around and her recently started looking into becoming a cop. He was accepted into a police academy in Long Island last year.

He specifically requested not to receive any special treatment. Matias went through the exact same training as all the other recruits. He says it wouldn't have been fair to the others.

The program lasted about seven months and last week Matias graduated as the president of his class. He starts his patrol this week and it's possible that he's the first double amputee to become a full-time, active-duty officer.
