Carlos Pettigrew was at a parent-teacher conference on Wednesday, when his daughter called and said their house was on fire. Then the phone went dead.

He sped home, went around a turn too fast and ended up flipping his SUV. Luckily he only suffered minor injuries, so he left his car by the side of the road and ran the last half-mile.

When he got home, he found out his kids were okay, and firefighters even managed to save his dog. Paramedics had to take him to the hospital to be treated for a medical condition brought on by the running.

Their house has about $50,000 in damages and the SUV was a total loss. The Red Cross is making sure they have somewhere to stay.
