The last known search and rescue dog from 9/11 was put to sleep yesterday and given a proper hero's farewell. The sidewalk was lined with firefighters and rescue workers as Bretagne's flag-draped body was carried.

Bretagne (pronounced Brittany) was put to sleep on Monday, at 16-years-old age had slowed her down considerably. The golden retriever worked in search and rescue at disaster sites such as Ground Zero, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Rita and Hurricane Ivan before she retired at age nine.
