It should surprise no one that Iowa City is the 19th drunkest city in the U.S. It's home to the University of Iowa which routinely tops lists about the top party schools.

24/7 Wall St. did a survey looking at the drunkest cities in America, the looked at the percentage of adults drinking to excess, percentage of driving deaths involving alcohol, premature deaths, and median household income.

Iowa City came in at 19 with:

Percentage of adults drinking to excess: 23.2%
Percentage of driving deaths involving alcohol: 32.0%
Premature deaths: 229 before age 75 per 100,000
Median household income: $59,791

Binge drinking is more common among households earning at least $75,000 a year. In Iowa City, where 23.2% of adults report an excessive drinking habit, 41.6% of households report such high earnings, well above the 35.6% of American households with incomes of at least $75,000.
