The study is based on the number of pedestrians who were killed in 2014 compared to the size of the population.

The 10 most dangerous states for pedestrians are:

  1. New Mexico
  2. Florida
  3. Delaware
  4. Nevada
  5. Louisiana
  6. South Carolina
  7. Arizona
  8. Alabama
  9. Alaska
  10. New Jersey
    The 10 safest states are:

  1. Minnesota
  2. Nebraska
  3. Iowa
  4. Maine
  5. Ohio
  6. Wisconsin
  7. Kansas
  8. Vermont
  9. Idaho
  10. Wyoming

It was dark out when 72% of the people were hit, 34% of the people walking and 15% of the drivers were drunk. You're much less likely to get hit when you cross the street at an intersection than when you just run across anywhere.
