The officer noticed the vehicle wasn’t a personal cart, and Briggs allegedly told police employees at the Crossroad Hy-Vee had allowed her to borrow it because she didn’t have a ride home.

Hy-Vee officials said otherwise, and Briggs was arrested for second-degree theft, court records state. She was later released from jail.

Briggs lives on Parkridge Road, which is about four miles from the grocery store on Flammang Drive. She was pulled over about two miles into the voyage in the area of Hess and East Shaulis roads.

The cart was valued at $2,500, and Hy-Vee workers picked up the vehicle.
