Today is Scott Weiland's 47th birthday .... per his instruction, I'll just call him "Weiland" ?   That's what he requested when I caught him on a "good" day back in 1993 at an outdoor venue as the opener for Aerosmith.  I had heard he was difficult, but on this day he was calm and a pleasure to hang out with.

Even though he spent about 5 years as the front man for Velvet Revolver, I only think of him as the leader of Stone Temple Pilots.  I know I shouldn't be that way, especially noting all the different projects he's been involved with, but for some reason that's how I am.  I think he's one of the most versatile vocalists the last 40 years have ever seen.  He seemed to change his vocal style every 2 or 3 years, but every one was great!  It's a little sad that he couldn't get along with his fellow musicians for more than a few years at a time, causing so many changes and jumping around, etc.  It may have had something to do with him being bi-polar and having a drug problem ... 'ya think?  But this guy was legit when he took the stage, and almost never gave a bad performance.  Today, I salute STP fans, and I think I'll start the punch-out today with one of the STP requests that I'm sure I'll get, on this of all days !!
