28-year-old Tommie Woodward wanted to go swimming in the marina behind a restaurant in Orange, Texas this weekend. But there was a big sign that said, "No Swimming: Alligator."

He was about to ignore it and jump in, but the restaurant staff saw him and told him it wasn't a joke, they'd seen a 12-foot gator in the water a few days earlier.

Tommie yelled, "[Eff] that alligator!" and jumped on in. The gator immediately popped up, dragged him underwater, and killed him.

It's the first time someone's been killed by an alligator in Texas in almost two centuries. The last one on record was in 1836. It's also the first time a gator has killed someone in the U.S. since 2007 in Florida.
