Freedom Home For Homeless Vets An Ambitious Project That Needs Your Help

Update: We checked in with Angie this morning and was pleased to have an update about the house's grand opening last weekend. Here's our conversation with her.

My mom is a big believer in paying it forward. Her thing is to remain anonymous and do the kindness like a thief in the night.  Like Santa.  Well the Veterans Home project in Davenport being put together by the Freedom Home Ministries needs a lot more Santas, working all shifts while they re-purpose a former mansion that will help homeless Veterans get a foothold on a new life.

This weekend they held a public volunteer day, and while there were a dedicated group of amateur and professional weekenders lending a hand, it's now time for all hands on deck. Freedom Homes founder, Sandra Cline and her enthusiastic staff can be found at the house just north of Locust on Grand in Davenport just about any day of the week, doing all sorts of labor intensive work that any of us could also do.  With a deadline of ribbon cutting in May, and The windows from Suburban Wholesale and Supply and their volunteer recruits, it's looking better for that goal to be realized.  I went out there today, and I gotta tell you, anything you're good at, they need.  Heck, my biggest asset is that I I can paint tall corners without a ladder!  So paint I did.  I saw other 2dorks  family members out there, hauling carpets and stripping walls, cleaning the endless array of rooms, each with a kitchenette and its own bathroom.  Heck, even Michaels put his model railroad talents to good use, in a 1:1 scale!

But there is more work to be done.  A lot more.  Call them and ask what you can do.
