Drunk Teenager Asked Two Cops for a Ride, Got in the Back of Patrol Car
18-year-old John Louis Chapman is a freshman at the University of Iowa. Last week he was drinking with friends in downtown Iowa City when he decided to head home, which was only a few blocks away.
Instead of just walking, he thought he'd see if he could get a lift, from two cops.
He walked up to a cop car while it was stopped in traffic, and asked if they'd give him a ride home like they were a cab. He was lucky at that point, because they didn't arrest him. They just told him to get back on the sidewalk.
But instead of doing that, he opened the back door and got in. According to the police report, that's when they noticed his eyes were bloodshot, and that he, "smelled of digested alcohol."
They breathalyzed him, and his blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit for someone over 21. He's facing charges for underage drinking.
