What started as a traffic stop turned into a sea rescue when the suspect attempted to swim his way to freedom.

20-year-old Zachary Kingsbury was stopped by Surf City police on Wednesday afternoon. When the officers spotted contraband in his vehicle, they asked him to step out. During the questioning, Kingsbury took off.

A drone caught up to him after he'd swam for nearly an hour and made it about a mile off the coast. The drone also found that Kingsbury had a swimming partner, a shark was only a view yards away.

Kingsbury was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and methamphetamine.
