According to OurQuadCities.com, a Bettendorf resident received a email from someone claiming to be from Dr. Pepper. The email told the recipient if they wrap their car in a Dr. Pepper advertisement, the resident would receive $500 a week. The scammers sent a $2400 check and told the resident to cash the check, keep $500 and send the rest to a car detailing company.

The resident thought something was fishy so he called Dr. Pepper and they had no knowledge of the promotion.

Police say after he cashed the check the company would pry cancel the check and the resident would end up owing a lot of money.

Just remember, if it looks too good to be true, it pry is.
