I don't drink coffee. I also don't watch "Gilmore Girls." Which is why when my wife told me about Davenport Coffee Hound turning into Luke's Coffee today I didn't understand what she was talking about.

From what I understand, Luke's is a diner in a fictional show, and from what I gather Luke is a poorly dressed guy with a backwards hat that serves the main characters. How this is cool is beyond me.

What I do know is that Davenport Coffee Hound was one of 200 coffee shops around the country chosen from a Netflix-sponsored promotion for the new upcoming "Gilmore Girls" mini series titled "Gilmore Girls: A Day tn the Life."

Paige Allender, who has owned Coffee Hound since 2010, said a representative from Netflix reached out to her about participating in the grassroots "Gilmore Girls" effort. Netflix is compensating the shop for coffee along with giveaways such as branded coffee sleeves and T-shirts.

"Coffee is the back bone of that show, just like it is for a lot of people in their daily lives," Allender, 31, who has watched all seven seasons of "Gilmore Girls," said. "We're so excited that the Quad-Cities was picked for this and that Coffee Hound was picked."

Starting at 6 a.m. today, free coffee will be available for the first 250 customers to arrive at Coffee Hound, 2642 Brady St., Davenport.

I guess we're going to have to send someone up there to see if we can score some free coffee.
