Think of your hidden stash of money in your home, there's probably no way you'd accidentally donate it to a soup kitchen. That's what happened to a couple in Middleton, Massachusetts.

Amanda Mattuchio says that her parents would hide money in a fake Campbell's Tomato Soup can. The bottom was able to be unscrewed and the couple had $2,500 worth of 50s and 100s.

Their neighbor had asked if they had any canned goods to donate to the local senior center. That's when they cleared out their cabinet.

It wasn't until a week later that the pair realized what had happened. Mattuchio said, “When they went to put some more money into the can, they realized it had been put in with the donations. It was kind of devastating.”

So far a search of the hundreds and hundreds of donated soup cans has brought up nothing. “I just hope whoever did find the money. If it has been found that they see this and they find it in their heart to return it,” Mattuchio said.
